Description

The STIHL HTA 135 cordless telescopic pole pruner is a professional AP System machine for pruning tall trees, removing deadwood, clearing storm-damaged branches and maintaining orchards or commercial grounds.

Its 1.10 kW brushless motor drives a 30 cm / 12-inch guide bar with a 3/8″ P PMM3 chain. The rigid telescopic shaft adjusts from 285 to 405 cm, allowing the cutting attachment to be positioned accurately while the operator remains on the ground where the task and surroundings permit.

The HTA 135 is supplied as a tool-only machine. A compatible STIHL AP battery, charger and suitable chain oil must be purchased separately.

Who is the STIHL HTA 135 suitable for?

The HTA 135 is aimed principally at professional and frequent users who need a long, rigid cordless pole pruner for demanding tree-maintenance work.

Typical applications include:

  • Removing deadwood from tall trees
  • Pruning larger branches from ground level
  • Clearing suitable storm-damaged limbs
  • Maintaining fruit trees and commercial orchards
  • Estate, park and municipal tree maintenance
  • Professional landscaping and grounds work
  • Working in noise-sensitive areas such as schools, hospitals and residential estates

The HTA 135 is not designed for tree felling or processing logs and firewood. For ground-based timber cutting, choose an appropriate conventional chainsaw.

1.10 kW professional cordless performance

The electronically controlled EC motor produces 1.10 kW. It provides strong professional pruning performance without petrol mixing, pull starting or direct exhaust emissions during use.

Constant Power electronics help maintain consistent cutting performance as the battery charge reduces. The variable-speed control allows the operator to match chain speed to the branch and working situation.

285–405 cm professional telescopic shaft

The total machine length can be adjusted from approximately 285 to 405 cm. The quick-adjustment mechanism allows the shaft length to be changed without tools.

The square-profile professional shaft is designed to remain particularly rigid when extended. This reduces unwanted twisting and helps the operator position the guide bar more accurately at height.

The quoted 405 cm figure is the maximum total machine length, not a guaranteed cutting height. Actual working height depends on the operator, stance, branch position and safe working conditions.

30 cm bar and 3/8-inch P PMM3 chain

The current UK machine is fitted with a 30 cm / 12-inch guide bar and a 3/8″ P PMM3 saw chain.

Guide-bar length 30 cm / 12 inches
Chain pitch 3/8″ P
Chain type STIHL PMM3
Chain gauge 1.1 mm
Drive links 44

The sprocket cover includes a raised direction guide that assists with alignment before the chain enters the branch.

Magnesium gearbox and branch hook

The gearbox housing is manufactured from magnesium to reduce cutting-head weight while retaining professional durability.

A sturdy integrated branch hook helps pull down loose cuttings after a branch has been severed. This reduces the need to reposition the cutting attachment merely to dislodge material.

AP 300 S battery performance

The STIHL AP 300 S battery is the manufacturer’s recommended battery for the HTA 135. STIHL quotes a working time of up to approximately 45 minutes under test conditions.

Recommended battery Approximate working time
STIHL AP 300 S Up to 45 minutes

Actual runtime varies according to branch diameter, wood type, chain sharpness, shaft position, working technique, battery condition and ambient temperature.

The battery and charger are not included. Browse the STIHL AP System range and STIHL battery chargers.

Variable-speed multifunction handle

The operating controls and speed adjustment are integrated into the handle. Power can be changed without releasing the normal operating grip or stopping work to adjust a separate control.

Lower speed can help reduce unnecessary energy use during lighter work, while full performance remains available for more demanding cuts.

Automatic chain lubrication

The HTA 135 uses automatic bar-and-chain lubrication from a 220 ml oil tank.

Chain oil is not included. Fill the machine with suitable chainsaw lubricant before first use and monitor the oil level during work.

Suitable lubricant is available from our STIHL chain-oil range.

Smart Connector 2 A ready

The housing includes a prepared mounting position for the optional STIHL Smart Connector 2 A. This allows compatible professional users to record machine operating information within the STIHL connected system.

Protective foot and metal-mesh filter

The supplied protective foot helps prevent the motor housing and battery from resting directly on wet or dirty ground.

A fine metal-mesh filter supports reliable motor cooling and can be cleaned as part of routine maintenance.

IPX4 splashwater protection

The HTA 135 is IPX4 rated, providing protection against splashing water from different directions. It is designed for professional outdoor use, including work in rainy conditions where the risk assessment and operating instructions permit.

IPX4 does not mean waterproof. The machine and battery must not be immersed, pressure-washed or stored wet.

Harness options

At 6.8 kg before the battery is fitted, the HTA 135 is a substantial professional machine. An appropriate harness can significantly improve weight distribution during extended work.

The STIHL RTS harness is compatible with the HTA 135 and is worth considering for regular or prolonged use.

HTA 66 versus HTA 86 versus HTA 135

Model Shaft Best suited to
STIHL HTA 66 Fixed Regular professional or estate pruning where a lighter fixed shaft is sufficient
STIHL HTA 86 Telescopic Users wanting adjustable reach with lower weight and less output than the HTA 135
STIHL HTA 135 Professional telescopic shaft Demanding professional tree maintenance requiring 1.10 kW output and a rigid 285–405 cm shaft

The HTA 135 is no longer the highest-output cordless pole pruner in STIHL’s wider current range; the newer HTA 160 is the step-up high-performance telescopic model. The HTA 135 remains a strong professional choice where its 1.10 kW output, mature design and current price provide the right balance.

HTA 135 or petrol HT 135?

The cordless HTA 135 offers push-button starting, lower routine maintenance and no direct exhaust emissions during use. It is particularly useful for noise-sensitive sites and users already invested in the STIHL AP System.

The STIHL HT 135 petrol pole pruner may be preferable where refuelling is more practical than battery charging or where a petrol fleet is already established.

Masseys recommendation

The HTA 135 is best suited to professional users who need more output and shaft rigidity than the HTA 86 but do not necessarily require the newer, higher-output HTA 160.

Its main strengths are the 1.10 kW motor, rigid square telescopic shaft, 30 cm cutting attachment and proven AP System design. Its principal trade-off is weight: at 6.8 kg without a battery, it is significantly heavier than lighter pole pruners and is best paired with an appropriate harness for extended work.

For occasional tree maintenance or customers prioritising lower weight, the HTA 86 is likely to be the more manageable choice.

Safety and correct use

A pole pruner is a high-speed cutting tool with an extended reach. Read the complete STIHL instruction manual before use and wear suitable eye, head, hand, foot and hearing protection.

Always assess overhead hazards, falling branches, nearby people, buildings, vehicles and electrical cables before starting work. Do not use the HTA 135 for felling trees or cutting logs at ground level.

Operate from stable ground, keep the prescribed distance from electrical conductors and do not stand directly beneath the branch being cut. Remove the battery before adjustment, transport, cleaning or maintenance.
