Side-mounted chain tensioning
The chain-tensioning screw is positioned at the side of the cutting head.
This provides convenient access to the adjustment mechanism while keeping the tool away from the sharp chain teeth.
The chain tension should be checked:
- Before each use
- After fitting a new chain
- During longer pruning sessions
- Whenever the chain no longer sits correctly against the underside of the guide bar
Remove the battery and wear protective gloves before adjusting or handling the saw chain.
Captive sprocket-cover nut
The sprocket-cover nut remains attached to the cover when loosened.
This reduces the risk of losing the nut while cleaning the cutting head or replacing the guide bar and chain outdoors.
Automatic chain lubrication
The HTA 66 automatically supplies oil to the guide bar and saw chain while the tool is operating.
The oil tank uses a tool-free cap, making it easier to refill without a separate cap tool.
Check the chain-oil level and oil delivery before starting work. Running the machine with insufficient lubrication can quickly damage the guide bar and chain.
Chain oil is not included. Add suitable STIHL chain oil before the first use.
Sturdy branch hook
The cutting head includes a robust branch hook.
After a branch has been cut, the hook can help pull loose cuttings clear where they have become caught in surrounding growth.
Do not stand directly beneath the branch or pull material towards yourself. Maintain a controlled working area and consider where each branch is likely to fall before cutting.
Intuitive control handle
The control handle uses a self-resetting locking switch, trigger and ERGO lever.
Once unlocked, the machine starts electronically by pressing the trigger. There is no starter cord, fuel choke or warm-up process.
The controls can be operated by right- or left-handed users, although the machine must always be held and controlled in accordance with the operating instructions.
STIHL Constant Power
STIHL Constant Power electronics help maintain consistent cutting performance as the battery charge decreases.
The tool does not simply become progressively slower throughout the battery cycle. The electronics maintain power until battery charge, temperature or operating conditions require output to be regulated.
Efficient EC motor
The HTA 66 uses a compact electronically commutated motor.
The EC motor is efficient, low maintenance and does not require servicing of carbon brushes. It also provides instant response when the trigger is pressed.
IPX4 splashwater protection
