Cutting performance
The GTA 26 uses a narrow 10 cm guide bar and STIHL ¼-inch PM3 saw chain to produce controlled cuts with relatively low vibration. A flexible protective cover follows the guide bar and moves upwards as the tool enters the timber.
STIHL measures battery performance at approximately 70 cuts through 4 cm branches with a fully charged AS 2 battery. The 4 cm figure is the diameter used for STIHL’s runtime test and should not be interpreted as an official maximum cutting capacity.
Actual performance will vary according to branch diameter, timber hardness, chain condition, cutting technique, temperature and battery condition.
Battery runtime and charging
The included STIHL AS 2 battery provides up to approximately 25 minutes of working time. The AL 1 charger takes around 80 minutes to charge an AS 2 battery fully.
An LED indicator on the tool shows the remaining battery charge while you work. Customers completing larger pruning jobs may find a second AS 2 battery useful.
The AS 2 battery is also compatible with other suitable tools in the STIHL AS System, allowing one battery platform to be used across several compact garden and cleaning tools.
Controlled two-handed handling
The GTA 26 is compact, but it is still a powered saw-chain tool. It should be held securely with both hands: one on the rear control handle and one on the upper grip.
The rubberised handles help provide a secure hold, while the chain cover reduces accidental contact with the upper section of the chain. Always read the supplied instruction manual and use appropriate personal protective equipment before operating the machine.
Tool-free chain access
The side cover can be opened without a separate tool, making it easier to remove the guide bar and chain for cleaning or replacement. Chain tension is adjusted manually before the cover is secured.
For efficient cutting, regularly:
- Check the chain tension
- Remove sap and debris from the bar and chain area
- Inspect the chain for damage or excessive wear
- Apply STIHL Multioil Bio manually to the chain
- Recharge and store the battery in accordance with the STIHL instructions
