Who is the STIHL MSA 200 suitable for?

The MSA 200 C-B is intended for demanding private users, landowners, maintenance teams, horticultural workers, landscapers and professional users who want strong cordless performance in a relatively compact chainsaw.

Customers completing longer cutting sessions can consider the larger STIHL AP 500 S battery, which has a longer listed working time but adds weight and cost.

1.5kW professional cordless performance

The MSA 200 C-B delivers 1.5kW of mechanical cutting power through an efficient STIHL EC motor.

Electronic motor control helps provide consistent performance as the battery charge falls, rather than allowing cutting speed to fade progressively during use.

The MSA 200 produces approximately 20% more cutting performance than the MSA 160, making it better suited to thicker branches, more regular firewood preparation and demanding maintenance work.

35cm guide bar and STIHL PM3 saw chain

The chainsaw is supplied with a 35cm / 14-inch guide bar and a narrow ¼-inch P Picco Micro 3 saw chain.

This cutting attachment is designed to provide a fast, smooth cut with relatively low vibration. The narrow chain also helps the motor use the available battery energy efficiently.

The compatible STIHL replacement cutting attachment uses a 35cm Rollomatic E Mini guide bar and a ¼-inch P PM3 chain with a 1.1mm gauge.

Tool-free quick chain tensioning

STIHL quick chain tensioning allows the chain to be adjusted without using a separate combination spanner.

After loosening the sprocket-cover knob, the adjustment wheel can be turned to alter chain tension. The cover is then secured again using the large hand-operated knob.

Chain tension must still be checked before every use and periodically during work. A new chain can stretch during its first periods of operation.

Constant Power and EC motor

STIHL Constant Power electronics help maintain consistent cutting performance as the battery charge decreases.

The brushless EC motor is efficient, compact and requires less routine engine maintenance than a petrol chainsaw because there is no carburettor, spark plug, air filter or fuel mixture to service.

This does not make the chainsaw maintenance-free. The guide bar, saw chain, chain tensioner, sprocket area and oiling system still require regular inspection, cleaning and maintenance.

Battery choice and estimated working time

The MSA 200 uses STIHL professional AP/ALLPRO batteries. Working time depends on the battery, timber, chain condition and cutting technique.

These are test figures rather than guaranteed job times. Actual runtime varies according to:

The guide bar and saw chain require suitable chain oil whenever the machine is used. Chain oil is separate from the battery and is not supplied with this tool-only chainsaw.

Metal bumper spikes

Metal bumper spikes help brace the chainsaw against the timber and provide a more stable pivot point during appropriate cross-cutting work.

Allow the chain to reach operating speed before entering the wood and avoid forcing the guide bar through the cut.

Low-noise cordless operation

The EC motor operates more quietly than a comparable petrol chainsaw and produces no exhaust emissions at the point of use.

This makes the MSA 200 particularly useful for noise-sensitive areas, property maintenance, enclosed work environments with suitable ventilation arrangements and locations where petrol machinery would be disruptive.

IPX4 splashwater protection

The MSA 200 C-B is designed with IPX4 splashwater protection.

This provides protection against water splashes from different directions but does not make the chainsaw waterproof. It should still be used, cleaned and stored according to the STIHL instruction manual.
