STIHL BGA 300 professional cordless backpack blower

The STIHL BGA 300 is a high-output professional cordless backpack blower developed for demanding leaf and debris clearance in grounds maintenance, landscaping, local-authority work and larger properties.

Its 26N maximum blowing force and 86m/s maximum air velocity provide the performance required to move wet leaves, grass cuttings and heavier loose debris from lawns, paths, car parks, sports grounds and other substantial outdoor areas.

The BGA 300 operates on the professional STIHL AP battery platform, now also presented by STIHL as the ALLPRO Battery System. It can be powered by a compatible AR L backpack battery or, on the current model, through an ADA 1000 adapter using compatible AP batteries.

This is a tool-only product. A battery, charger, ADA 1000 adapter and Smart Connector 2 A are not included unless expressly stated in the product offer.

Who should choose the STIHL BGA 300?

The BGA 300 is intended for users who need professional cordless performance combined with the weight distribution and extended runtime of a backpack system.

It is particularly well suited to:

  • Professional landscapers and grounds-maintenance contractors
  • Local authorities and facilities departments
  • Schools, hospitals and residential developments
  • Hotels, parks, estates and visitor attractions
  • Sports grounds and larger educational sites
  • Large properties with extensive tree cover
  • Clearing wet leaves and compacted material
  • Longer working sessions where handheld battery weight would become tiring
  • Noise-sensitive locations where a petrol engine would be disruptive
  • Existing users of STIHL AP or AR L battery equipment

Consider another blower when:

  • You only need occasional light domestic leaf clearance
  • You want a compact blower for short, mobile jobs
  • You do not need extended backpack-battery working times
  • You require a machine that can vacuum and shred leaves
  • You prefer the rapid refuelling and higher-output options available from some petrol backpack blowers
  • You only own STIHL AK domestic batteries

For shorter professional jobs and maximum mobility, compare the STIHL BGA 250 handheld cordless blower.

For routine professional clearing where less blowing force is required, consider the STIHL BGA 86 cordless blower.

Why Masseys recommends the STIHL BGA 300

At Masseys, we recommend the BGA 300 to professional users who need sustained cordless blowing performance rather than simply the highest possible output for a short period.

The BGA 250 and BGA 300 both produce up to 26N, but they are designed for different working patterns. The BGA 250 is compact and easy to pick up for short clearing jobs. The BGA 300 distributes the machine and battery system across the shoulders and hips, making it better suited to longer sessions and larger sites.

For the longest working time, we would normally pair the blower with the AR 3000 L. STIHL quotes up to 140 minutes at the lowest output level and up to 61 minutes at maximum output or boost. The AR 2000 L reduces battery capacity but may be a more economical choice where uninterrupted runtime is less important.

The ADA 1000 is particularly useful for businesses that already operate a fleet of AP-powered tools and AP 500 S batteries. It creates a lighter overall setup than an AR 3000 L and allows the same batteries to be shared across compatible equipment, although working time is considerably shorter.

The main consideration is the total system investment. The blower is supplied without a battery or charger, so a new user must budget for the appropriate power supply and charging equipment. Customers completing only short, occasional jobs may receive better value from the BGA 250 or BGA 86.

Masseys product assessment: reviewed by the Masseys garden machinery team in Woodville, Swadlincote. Product information checked July 2026.

26N professional blowing performance

The BGA 300 produces up to 26 Newtons of blowing force. This measurement reflects the combined effect of air movement and velocity and provides a useful indication of how effectively the blower can move demanding material.

Its maximum air velocity is 86m/s. The output makes it suitable for:

  • Wet or compacted leaves
  • Large quantities of dry leaves
  • Grass cuttings
  • Loose litter
  • Light soil and dust on suitable hard surfaces
  • General grounds-maintenance debris

Output should be reduced when working around loose gravel, delicate borders, doorways, parked vehicles or other areas where maximum force is unnecessary.

Four output levels including boost

The control handle provides three working levels plus boost mode. This lets the operator match performance and energy use to the task.

  • Level 1: extended working time and controlled clearing
  • Level 2: routine general-purpose work
  • Level 3: heavier leaves and more demanding material
  • Boost: maximum available output for stubborn debris

An LED display shows the selected output level. The variable trigger provides additional control within the chosen setting.

Cruise control for longer clearing runs

Cruise control allows a chosen blowing output to be maintained without holding the trigger continuously. This is particularly useful when clearing long paths, car parks, sports grounds and other open areas where a consistent airflow is required.

The operator remains responsible for reducing output or releasing the control whenever conditions change.

STIHL Noise Reduction System

The BGA 300 uses STIHL’s Noise Reduction System to reduce both the overall sound output and the high-pitched frequencies that can be particularly intrusive in built-up or noise-sensitive locations.

STIHL quotes a maximum sound power level of 94dB(A). Suitable hearing protection is still required, and workplace noise assessments and local restrictions should always be followed.

The cordless design also produces no exhaust emissions at the machine, making it useful around schools, hospitals, hotels, residential developments and other occupied sites.

Ergonomic backpack carrying system

The carrying system uses padded S-shaped shoulder straps and an adjustable hip belt to distribute the machine’s operating weight across the shoulders, back and hips.

This is one of the main reasons to choose the BGA 300 over a handheld blower for prolonged work. Correct adjustment is essential: the straps, hip belt and handle should be set to suit the individual operator before use.

The blower weighs approximately 7kg without a battery. The final operating weight depends on whether it is paired with an AR L battery or the ADA 1000 and AP batteries.

Adjustable control handle and blower tube

The control handle can be repositioned without tools to suit the operator’s arm length and preferred working posture.

The blower tube also has quick, infinitely variable length adjustment. This lets the nozzle position be matched to the operator’s height and the surface being cleared.

An integrated tube holder allows the blower tube to be secured to the backpack when walking between work areas or storing the machine.

Battery choices and working times

The BGA 300 can be powered using an AR L backpack battery or, on the current BGA 300.1, an ADA 1000 adapter carrying compatible STIHL AP batteries.

AR 3000 L backpack battery

The AR 3000 L is STIHL’s recommended battery for the longest working time and demanding professional use.

Battery Approximate working time
AR 3000 L Approximately 140 minutes at the lowest output to 61 minutes at maximum output

The exact runtime depends on power setting, boost use, battery condition, temperature, material and operating technique.

AR 2000 L backpack battery

The STIHL AR 2000 L provides a lower-capacity backpack option.

Battery Approximate working time
AR 2000 L Approximately 97 minutes at the lowest output to 48 minutes at maximum output

ADA 1000 with AP batteries

The optional ADA 1000 adapter allows the current BGA 300.1 to use one or two compatible STIHL AP batteries. Two AP 500 S batteries provide an approximate working-time range of 29 minutes at the lowest output to 12 minutes at maximum output.

On the current BGA 300.1, the ADA 1000 automatically changes from one installed battery to the second when the first is depleted.

Version warning: earlier BGA 300.0 machines can use the ADA 1000, but do not support automatic battery switchover. Check the machine identification label or ask Masseys to confirm the version before purchase.

The ADA 1000 and batteries are not included with the blower.

Choosing a charger

The correct charger depends on the battery system and the number of batteries being used.

Professional users operating several AP batteries may benefit from the STIHL AL 301-4 multiple battery charger. Other suitable options can be compared in the STIHL battery-charger range.

AR L charging requirements differ from standard AP battery charging. Contact Masseys for advice before ordering a complete battery and charger setup.

IPX4 splashwater protection

The BGA 300 is rated to IPX4 for splashwater protection and is designed for professional outdoor operation in wet conditions.

IPX4 does not mean the machine or battery is fully waterproof. Do not submerge it, pressure wash it or store it in standing water. Follow STIHL’s cleaning, drying and storage instructions.

STIHL Smart Connector 2 A ready

The BGA 300 has a prepared mounting position for the optional STIHL Smart Connector 2 A.

When installed and configured with STIHL connected services, it can help professional users record operating data and manage equipment across a fleet.

The Smart Connector 2 A is not included with the standard blower.
