Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt 2.5L

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt 2.5L is a premium clear matt hardwax oil for protecting interior wooden floors, furniture, doors, stairs, panels and joinery. Also known as Osmo 3062 Clear Matt, it gives timber a tough, natural-looking finish with low sheen and excellent everyday durability.

The 2.5L tin is the ideal choice for larger flooring projects, full-room applications, multiple pieces of furniture and trade use. It protects the wood against wear, dirt and spillages while enhancing the natural grain without leaving a heavy varnished appearance.

If you want a professional-quality wood finish that looks natural, feels smooth and is easy to maintain, Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt 2.5L is one of the best choices for interior wood protection.

Why Choose the 2.5L Tin?

The 2.5L size is designed for bigger projects where consistency, coverage and value matter. It is especially well suited to wooden floors, larger rooms, stairs, fitted furniture, doors and joinery where you need enough product to complete the job with an even finish.

  • Ideal for larger wooden floor areas and full-room projects
  • Suitable for trade and DIY use
  • Covers approximately 75m² with one coat on smooth prepared wood

Natural Matt Protection for Interior Wood

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt 3062 combines the advantages of natural oils and waxes in one hardwearing interior wood finish. It penetrates into the wood and protects the surface, helping to resist moisture, dirt, scuffs and everyday wear.

Unlike many traditional varnishes, Osmo Polyx-Oil does not create a thick plastic-looking layer on top of the timber. Instead, it leaves a more natural feel while still giving the wood durable protection for busy homes, flooring projects and furniture.

The clear matt finish is ideal when you want the wood to look understated and natural. It diffuses light reflections, reduces shine and gives the surface an almost untreated appearance while still enhancing the timber’s grain and tone.

Best Uses for Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt 2.5L

Use this product on interior wood where you want a tough, clear matt finish with a natural look and reliable everyday protection.

  • Solid wood flooring
  • Engineered wood flooring
  • Plank wood flooring
  • Parquet and block-strip flooring
  • Wooden stairs
  • Interior wooden furniture
  • Tables, chairs, shelving and cabinets
  • Internal doors
  • Wooden panels and cladding
  • Interior joinery
  • OSB surfaces
  • Cork floors

Always test first on a small, discreet area to confirm the final colour, sheen and appearance, especially when working with unfamiliar timber, dark woods or previously treated surfaces.

Coverage and Drying Time

  • Coverage: approximately 30m² per litre with one coat
  • 2.5L tin coverage: approximately 75m² with one coat
  • Recommended coats: two thin coats on new or freshly sanded wood
  • Drying time: approximately 8–10 hours per coat for clear finishes
  • Full cure: approximately 2–3 weeks before the surface is fully hardened
  • Finish: clear matt
  • Product code: 3062
  • Use: interior wood only

Coverage depends on the wood species, sanding grade, absorbency and condition of the surface. Rough, open-grained or highly absorbent timber may require more product. For new or freshly sanded wood requiring two coats, total finished coverage will be lower than the one-coat figure.

Application Guide

Make sure the wood surface is clean, dry and frost-free before application. The maximum recommended wood moisture content is 18%. Old paints, lacquers and varnishes should be completely removed before applying Osmo Polyx-Oil Original.

Sand the wood carefully before oiling. As a guide, final sanding should be approximately P120–150 for flooring and P180–240 for furniture. Remove sanding dust thoroughly with a broom, vacuum or suitable dust removal method before applying the oil.

Stir the tin thoroughly before use. Do not thin.

Apply very thinly and evenly along the wood grain using an Osmo Flat Brush, Osmo Floor Brush, hand pad or Osmo Microfibre Roller. Spread the product well and avoid over-application. Too much oil or poor ventilation can delay drying and may leave the surface tacky.

Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 8–10 hours with good ventilation, then apply a second thin coat. For renovation or recoating of an already oiled surface, one thin coat on a clean, dry surface is usually sufficient.

Clear Matt Finish: What to Expect

Osmo 3062 Clear Matt gives wood an almost natural look with diffused light reflection. It is a good choice when you want the protection of a hardwax oil but prefer minimal shine.

Clear oils can enhance and slightly deepen the natural tone of wood. If you want to retain the lightest possible look on pale oak or similar light woods, consider Osmo Polyx-Oil Effect Raw 2.5L. If you prefer a slightly richer sheen, compare with Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Satin 2.5L.

Care and Maintenance

Wood treated with Osmo Polyx-Oil Original is easy to maintain. For regular cleaning, remove dust and loose dirt with a broom, vacuum or suitable dust mop. For damp cleaning, use a suitable Osmo cleaning product such as Osmo Wash and Care and avoid saturating the surface with water.

When signs of wear become visible, the surface can usually be refreshed with one thin maintenance coat after proper cleaning and drying. This makes Osmo Polyx-Oil a practical option for floors and furniture because worn areas can be maintained without sanding back the entire surface.

Important Suitability Advice

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt is designed for interior wood. For dark and extractive-rich hardwoods such as wenge, merbau and jatoba, Osmo recommends using a more suitable specialist product such as Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin.

Be cautious when applying clear matt finishes over very dark surfaces, as matting agents can sometimes create a pale or misty appearance. Always trial apply first before coating the full area.

Osmo Polyx-Oil Clear Matt 2.5L vs 750ml

Choose the 2.5L tin for larger floors, stairs, full rooms, multiple doors, fitted furniture and trade projects. Choose Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt 750ml for smaller furniture, single doors, small areas, touch-ups or trial projects.

FAQs

What is Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt 2.5L used for?

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt 2.5L is used to protect interior wooden floors, furniture, stairs, doors, panels, OSB, cork and joinery with a durable clear matt hardwax oil finish.

Is Osmo Polyx-Oil Clear Matt suitable for wooden floors?

Yes. Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt is suitable for interior wooden floors, including solid wood flooring, plank flooring, engineered wood, parquet, block-strip flooring, OSB and cork floors.

How much does a 2.5L tin cover?

A 2.5L tin covers approximately 75m² with one coat on smooth, prepared wood. Coverage varies depending on the timber, sanding grade and absorbency of the surface.

How many coats should I apply?

Apply two thin coats on new, untreated or freshly sanded wood. For renovation or recoating of a previously oiled surface, one thin coat is usually sufficient if the surface is clean, dry and sound.

How long does Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt take to dry?

The clear finish takes approximately 8–10 hours to dry per coat under normal conditions with good ventilation. Cold temperatures, high humidity, poor airflow or over-application can increase drying time.

Does Clear Matt change the colour of wood?

Yes, clear oils can enhance and slightly deepen the natural tone of wood. The final appearance depends on the wood species and preparation, so a test area is always recommended before full application.

Is Clear Matt completely flat with no sheen?

Clear Matt gives a low-sheen, natural-looking finish with diffused light reflection. It is not a dead-flat paint-style finish; it still allows the grain and natural character of the wood to show.

Do I need to sand between coats?

No sanding is normally required between coats when the product is applied correctly and thinly. Make sure the first coat is fully dry before applying the second coat.

Can I use Osmo Polyx-Oil Clear Matt on furniture?

Yes. It is suitable for interior wooden furniture as well as floors, doors, stairs, panels and joinery. The matt finish is ideal where you want durable protection with a natural, understated look.

Is Osmo Polyx-Oil Original Clear Matt better than varnish?

Osmo Polyx-Oil gives a more natural look and feel than many traditional varnishes. It is also easier to maintain because worn areas can usually be cleaned and refreshed with a thin coat rather than sanding the whole surface back.

Can I use this product in kitchens or bathrooms?

It can be used on suitable interior wood, but areas exposed to higher moisture need careful preparation, thin application and proper ventilation. Osmo recommends additional protection such as Osmo Wood Protector as a base coat for use in kitchens or bathrooms.
