STIHL WSA 40 cordless pressurised water container
The STIHL WSA 40 is a 10-litre battery-powered water tank designed to provide an automatic mobile water supply for compatible STIHL cut-off machines during wet cutting.
Instead of requiring repeated hand pumping, its AS 2-powered pump automatically builds and maintains the selected pressure. This makes the WSA 40 particularly useful on construction, landscaping and civil-engineering sites where a live mains-water connection is unavailable or inconvenient.
The set includes the WSA 40 tank, removable pump head, STIHL AS 2 battery, STIHL AL 1 charger, four-metre hose and standard coupling.

Who is the STIHL WSA 40 suitable for?
The WSA 40 is intended primarily for trade and professional users who carry out wet cutting regularly and cannot always position their work close to a convenient water connection.
It is particularly suitable for:
- Builders and general construction contractors
- Groundworkers and utilities contractors
- Landscapers and paving installers
- Civil-engineering teams
- Road and site-maintenance work
- Cutting concrete, paving, brick and masonry with an approved wet-cutting setup
- Sites without a reliable live water supply
- Users wanting fewer interruptions than a hand-pumped tank requires
Consider the manual tank instead when:
- Your wet-cutting work is infrequent
- Keeping the initial purchase cost as low as possible is the priority
- You do not want to manage or charge a battery
- Stopping periodically to repressurise the container is acceptable
Why Masseys recommends the STIHL WSA 40
At Masseys, we recommend the WSA 40 to trade users who regularly cut paving, concrete, masonry or similar materials away from an accessible water connection.
Its real advantage is not simply the 10-litre capacity. The lower-cost manual STIHL container holds the same quantity of water. The benefit of the WSA 40 is that its electric pump automatically maintains the selected pressure, reducing the need to stop cutting, put the machine down and pump the tank by hand.
The AS 2 battery can provide up to approximately 30 minutes of pump operation, which STIHL equates to roughly five full WSA 40 tank fills under suitable conditions. For most users, that means one charged battery should comfortably outlast the water held in a single tank.
It is also useful that the set is complete. The AS 2 battery and AL 1 charger are included, so a new customer does not have to identify and purchase a separate power package before using the pump.
The main consideration is value. When the tank will only be used a few times each year, the manual STIHL pressurised water container may be the more economical option. For repeated professional use, the automatic pressure and reduced interruption make the WSA 40 the more productive setup.

How does the STIHL WSA 40 work?
Fill the transparent container with suitable clean water up to its marked maximum level. Secure the pump head, insert the AS 2 battery and connect the supplied hose to the water inlet on the compatible cut-off machine.
Press the power button to activate the pump, then use the rotary control to choose the required operating pressure. The pump builds pressure inside the tank and automatically restarts when the pressure falls below the selected level.
When the connected machine stops drawing water, the pump enters standby. It can also switch off automatically after a period without use, helping to avoid unnecessary battery consumption.
The WSA 40 does not generate or continuously replenish its own water. The container must be filled before use, but it can then supply the connected machine without being attached to a live mains-water connection.
Key features
Automatic battery-powered pressurisation
The electric pump automatically applies and maintains pressure inside the container. This reduces the repeated stopping and hand pumping associated with a conventional manual water tank.
STIHL Constant Power electronics help the pump provide consistent performance throughout the usable battery charge.
Adjustable pressure from 1.5 to 2.5 bar
The operating pressure can be adjusted continuously from approximately 1.5 to 2.5 bar using the rotary control on the pump head.
This allows the water supply to be matched more closely to the connected cut-off machine, material and cutting task instead of relying on one fixed pressure level.
10-litre transparent tank
The container has a maximum water-fill capacity of 10 litres. Its translucent construction and marked scale make it easier to see the remaining water and avoid overfilling.
A funnel-shaped opening helps make refilling cleaner and more straightforward on site.
Remember that 10 litres of water weighs approximately 10kg. Allow for the additional weight of the machine when moving a full container and use the carrying handle correctly.
Up to 30 minutes or five tanks per charge
STIHL gives a maximum working time of approximately 30 minutes with one fully charged AS 2 battery. This is equivalent to approximately five full WSA 40 or manual STIHL water-container fills under suitable conditions.
Actual output will vary according to:
- Selected pressure
- Water demand from the connected machine
- Battery temperature and condition
- Ambient temperature
- Cutting technique
- Periods spent in standby
A spare STIHL AS 2 battery may be useful for users completing long or continuous working days.
Four-metre hose and standard coupling
The supplied four-metre hose gives the operator room to position the tank away from the immediate cutting area while maintaining a connection to the cut-off machine.
The standard coupling is designed to connect to compatible STIHL cut-off machine water inlets.
Removable pump head
The battery-powered pump head can be removed from the WSA 40 tank. STIHL also identifies it as compatible with selected other equipment, including:
- STIHL SG 31 manual sprayer
- STIHL TS pressurised water tank
- STIHL SGA 30 cordless sprayer
Compatibility relates to the pump-head and container system. It does not mean the WSA 40 is suitable for every tool in the wider STIHL AS battery range.
LED charge indicator
LEDs on the machine display the remaining battery-charge level, helping the operator judge whether enough capacity remains for the intended work.
Pressure-relief valve
An integrated pressure-relief valve allows the container to be depressurised before the pump head is removed or the tank is opened.
Always switch the unit off, remove the battery and release the pressure in accordance with the STIHL instructions before opening the container.
IPX4 splashwater protection
The WSA 40 has IPX4 splashwater protection when correctly assembled and operated. The covered battery compartment helps protect the battery from water splashes and site dust.
IPX4 does not mean the machine is fully waterproof. Do not submerge the pump, battery or charger, and do not clean them with a pressure washer.

- STIHL TSA 300 cordless cut-off saw – professional 300mm AP System machine
Always confirm that the machine, cutting wheel and planned application are approved for wet cutting before connecting the water supply.
Why use water when cutting concrete or masonry?
When the cut-off machine and cutting wheel are approved for wet cutting, supplying water to the cutting area can help:
- Bind some of the dust created during cutting
- Cool the cutting wheel
- Reduce loose airborne and settled dust around the immediate cutting area
- Support more consistent wet-cutting conditions
- Maintain a water supply where no mains connection is available
Water suppression does not make cutting dust-free and does not remove the need for an appropriate risk assessment, suitable cutting method, approved PPE and respiratory protection.
