Is the STIHL RMA 443 right for your lawn?
The STIHL RMA 443 cordless lawn mower is a 41 cm push mower designed for small and medium-sized domestic lawns. It provides more cutting capacity and flexibility than a compact entry-level mower while remaining easier to manoeuvre than a larger self-propelled machine.
It is particularly well suited to relatively level lawns where you want a high-quality cordless mower but do not need wheel drive. The mower can collect, cut and drop, side discharge or mulch, allowing you to adapt the mowing method to the condition of the grass and the finish you want.
Please note: this listing is for the mower only. A compatible STIHL AK battery and charger are required and are sold separately.

Why Masseys recommends the STIHL RMA 443
Masseys recommends the RMA 443 to customers who want the features and cutting flexibility of STIHL’s 4 Series cordless mower platform but do not need self-propelled drive.
Its main advantage is versatility. The 41 cm deck is wide enough to mow a typical family lawn efficiently but remains manageable around trees, borders and garden furniture. The four mowing methods also mean that you are not restricted to collecting every time you mow: you can mulch regularly maintained grass or use side discharge when the grass is longer and collection is unnecessary.
For a relatively level lawn, choosing the push RMA 443 avoids paying for a drive system that may not be needed. For a sloping garden, longer mowing sessions or anyone who would benefit from assistance moving the mower forward, we would normally recommend the STIHL RMA 443 V self-propelled cordless lawn mower instead.
Four different ways to mow
Cut and collect
Fit the 52-litre grass collection box to collect the clippings and leave a clean finish. The fill-level indicator helps show when the collector needs emptying, while its folding design makes the clippings easier to tip out.
Cut and drop
Remove the grass collector and allow the cuttings to discharge behind the mower. This is useful when collection is not required or when mowing less formal areas.
Side discharge
The integrated side-discharge function directs the cut grass away from the mower deck. It is particularly useful when the grass is longer or when you need to mow an area without repeatedly stopping to empty the collector.
Mulching
Switch the mower into mulch mode to cut the clippings finely and return them to the lawn. Regular mulching reduces the need to empty the grass box and returns organic material to the turf.
Which STIHL battery should you choose?
The RMA 443 is compatible with batteries in the STIHL AK System. The approximate maximum areas published by STIHL are shown below.
| Battery | Approximate maximum lawn area | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| STIHL AK 10 | Up to 115 m² | Small lawns and the lightest battery setup |
| STIHL AK 20 | Up to 230 m² | Typical regularly maintained domestic lawns |
| STIHL AK 30 S | Up to 300 m² | Maximum listed coverage and more demanding mowing |
For many regularly maintained lawns, the AK 20 offers a useful balance of runtime, weight and cost. Choose the AK 30 S for a larger lawn, longer grass, fewer charging interruptions or the maximum listed coverage.
Actual coverage varies according to grass length, moisture, terrain, cutting height, battery condition and mowing technique.
If you are starting a new AK battery system, consider the STIHL AK 30 S battery and AL 101 charger starter set. You can also compare the full selection of STIHL battery chargers.
Two battery positions
The mower has two positions for STIHL AK batteries. A second charged battery can be carried in the mower so it is ready when required.
The mower does not switch batteries automatically. When the first battery is depleted, the operator manually changes to the second battery position.
Comfortable handling and compact storage
The mono comfort handlebar is attached on one side of the mower, leaving clear access to the grass collector. This makes the collector easier to remove, empty and refit.
The handlebar can be adjusted to suit the operator’s height and folded when the mower is transported or stored. A built-in carrying handle also helps when moving the mower into a shed, garage or vehicle.
Efficient cordless cutting performance
Constant Power
STIHL Constant Power electronics maintain consistent cutting performance as the battery charge falls, rather than allowing the mower’s output to gradually fade.
Power Boost
The mower and compatible battery communicate electronically so the battery can provide the appropriate output when cutting conditions become more demanding.
Eco mode
Eco mode adjusts the motor speed according to the mowing load. In lighter grass, the mower can reduce energy consumption to help extend the available battery runtime.
Flow-optimised blade
The blade is designed to reduce unnecessary air resistance, allowing more of the battery’s stored energy to be used for cutting.
Durable polymer mowing deck
The RMA 443 uses a double-layered polymer mowing deck. It is corrosion-resistant, UV-resistant and lighter than a comparable steel construction while still providing the stability required for regular domestic mowing.
The mower is rated IPX4 for splashwater protection. This does not make the machine waterproof, and it should always be used, cleaned and stored in accordance with the STIHL instruction manual.

What is included?
- STIHL RMA 443 cordless lawn mower
- 52-litre grass collection box
- Integrated mulching function

A battery and charger are not included. Customers who do not already own compatible equipment will need a STIHL AK battery and suitable charger before using the mower.
STIHL RMA 443 versus RMA 443 V
The standard RMA 443 is a push mower, so the operator provides all forward movement. It is normally the more cost-effective choice for a relatively level lawn where self-propulsion is unnecessary.
The STIHL RMA 443 V adds variable-speed wheel drive. Consider the V model for:
- Sloping gardens
- Longer mowing sessions
- Users who find pushing a mower tiring
- Lawns where additional drive assistance would be useful

Frequently asked questions
Does the STIHL RMA 443 include a battery and charger?
No. This listing is for the tool-only mower. A compatible STIHL AK battery and charger are sold separately.
Is the STIHL RMA 443 self-propelled?
No. The RMA 443 is a push mower without wheel drive. Choose the RMA 443 V if you require variable-speed self-propelled assistance.
What size lawn can the RMA 443 mow?
STIHL lists maximum approximate coverage of 115 m² with an AK 10, 230 m² with an AK 20 and 300 m² with an AK 30 S. Actual coverage depends on the grass and operating conditions.
Can the STIHL RMA 443 mulch?
Yes. The RMA 443 can collect, cut and drop, side discharge or mulch without requiring a separate mulching kit.
Which battery is best for the RMA 443?
The AK 20 is a practical choice for many regularly maintained lawns up to approximately 230 m². Choose the AK 30 S for the longest listed coverage or more demanding mowing conditions.
Does the mower automatically switch between its two batteries?
No. The mower has two battery positions, but the operator manually changes to the second battery when required.
Is the RMA 443 suitable for a sloping lawn?
It can be used on appropriate gentle slopes in accordance with the instruction manual, but it does not have wheel drive. The self-propelled RMA 443 V will normally require less physical effort on a sloping lawn.
