STIHL HTA 30 cordless pole pruner set
The STIHL HTA 30 cordless pole pruner is a compact, lightweight telescopic pole saw designed for routine tree and shrub maintenance in domestic gardens. Its adjustable shaft allows you to prune elevated branches while remaining at ground level, without the weight and maintenance requirements of a petrol pole pruner.
This complete set includes the HTA 30, two STIHL AS 2 batteries and the correct STIHL ALS 31 charger. Both batteries are fitted to the machine and used simultaneously.
The telescopic shaft adjusts without tools from approximately 190 cm to 280 cm. At the cutting end, a 20 cm STIHL Light 01 guide bar and low-profile 1/4-inch PM3 chain provide clean, controlled pruning of suitable branches up to approximately 17 cm in diameter.
The HTA 30 is part of the compact STIHL AS System cordless range. The supplied AS 2 batteries can also be removed and used individually in other compatible AS System tools.
Key features of the STIHL HTA 30
Tool-free telescopic shaft
The rigid-guided shaft can be adjusted from approximately 190 cm to 280 cm without using a separate tool. Shorten the machine for transport, storage and lower pruning work, then extend it when additional reach is required.
The 280 cm figure refers to the maximum length of the machine. Actual working reach varies according to the operator’s height, stance and cutting angle.
20 cm guide bar for controlled pruning
The HTA 30 is fitted with a 20 cm / 8-inch STIHL Light 01 guide bar and a 1/4-inch PM3 saw chain. The narrow cutting head provides a clear view of the cutting position and is easier to manoeuvre between closely spaced branches than a larger chainsaw cutting attachment.
STIHL lists branches up to approximately 17 cm in diameter. Actual suitability depends on the timber species, whether the branch is green or dead, chain condition, cutting angle and whether the branch can be removed safely.
Powered by two STIHL AS 2 batteries
The HTA 30 uses two AS 2 batteries at the same time. Both batteries must be fitted correctly before the machine will operate.
With two fully charged batteries, STIHL lists up to approximately:
- 28 minutes of working time
- 140 cuts under controlled test conditions
Actual runtime will vary according to branch diameter, wood density, chain sharpness, temperature, battery condition and cutting technique.
Replacement STIHL AS 2 batteries are available separately.
RightTight tool-free chain tensioning
STIHL’s RightTight mechanism allows the chain to be tensioned without a separate spanner or screwdriver. Opening and closing the sprocket cover operates the spring-loaded tensioning mechanism, helping the chain return to the correct working tension.
The operator should still inspect the chain before each use and follow the tensioning procedure in the STIHL instruction manual.
Automatic chain lubrication
The HTA 30 automatically supplies lubricant to the guide bar and chain while the machine is operating. Its transparent oil tank makes the remaining oil level easier to check.

Balanced, lightweight handling
The HTA 30 weighs approximately 3.6 kg and uses the position of its two batteries to help counterbalance the cutting head. A soft-grip handle provides a secure gripping surface, while the compact head improves visibility when positioning the chain among branches.
An integrated branch hook can help pull down loose or already-cut branches once the cutting operation has been completed. Never stand directly beneath material being cut or removed.
What is the STIHL HTA 30 designed for?
The HTA 30 is best suited to occasional and routine domestic pruning, including:
- Pruning high branches on small and medium-sized garden trees
- Removing appropriate dead or damaged branches
- Maintaining fruit trees
- Cutting back overhanging branches
- Thinning crowded tree crowns
- Managing taller woody shrubs
- Cutting individual woody stems within established hedges
It is not intended for felling trees, cutting firewood, processing logs on the ground or completing professional arboricultural work.
