Surface Preparation:
For the best results of Osmo UV-Protection Oil Tints Oak 750ml, ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free, with a moisture content below 20%. The UV-Protection Oil is ready to use—do not thin. Stir well with a flat stirring stick before application. For optimal absorption, sand wood to a P120 grit. When possible, apply the first coat on all sides of the wood before installation, especially for wood with natural extractives (like Cedar, Teak, Mahogany, or Iroko) that may need weathering before application.
For renovation, clean old microporous stains thoroughly. If necessary, lightly sand the surface and use Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel to restore any greyed or weathered areas. Remove old paints and lacquers entirely before application. A dust mask is recommended during sanding.
Softwoods, such as Pine or Spruce, are more susceptible to blue stain, rot, and insects, and pre-treatment with Osmo WR Base Coat is suggested.
Application Method:
Apply Osmo UV-Protection Oil Tints Oak 750ml thinly with an Osmo Flat Brush or Microfibre Roller along the wood grain and spread evenly. Allow to dry for approximately 12 hours in a well-ventilated area before applying the second coat. Alternatively, a second coat can be applied using Osmo UV-Protection Oil Extra Clear. For color-treated or renovated surfaces, one coat is usually sufficient.
Top Tips for Application:
- Stir thoroughly before use to prevent patchiness.
- Sand new surfaces to a final P120 grit for optimal absorption.
- Allow ingredient-rich woods, such as Cedar, Iroko, Teak, and Mahogany, to weather for 12 weeks prior to application. Weathering increases absorbency.
- Avoid over-application, which may result in visible white pigments, especially on textured surfaces.
- This oil performs best on vertical timber structures. For horizontal surfaces, maintain a slight incline for water runoff.
- Ensure proper ventilation to prevent extended drying times.
- UV-Protection Oil delays wood greying by up to 12 times compared to untreated wood.
- For oak and chestnut, tannins may cause dark staining due to moisture and iron oxides. Clean any tannin spots promptly with a damp cloth.
