In stock

The Husqvarna GX 560 is a powerful petrol hover mower designed for steep banks, uneven ground, awkward contours and areas that are difficult to reach with a conventional wheeled lawn mower.

Its air-cushion deck allows the mower to move smoothly in different directions, while the approximately 51cm BioClip® cutting system finely mulches the grass instead of collecting it. The current model is powered by a 166cc Honda GCVX-170 four-stroke engine.

  • Approximately 51cm / 20in cutting width
  • Air-cushion hover design
  • Honda GCVX-170 four-stroke petrol engine
  • BioClip mulching cutting system
  • Three cutting heights from 10–30mm
  • Suitable for slopes up to a maximum of 40°
  • Lightweight 18kg construction
  • Foldable soft-grip handle

Important: The GX 560 does not collect grass and is not self-propelled. It is primarily designed for difficult slopes, banks and contoured areas where manoeuvrability is more important than a boxed finish or lawn stripes.

Husqvarna GX 560 petrol hover mower

The Husqvarna GX 560 is a petrol hover mower developed for steep banks, uneven ground, awkward contours and difficult areas that are unsuitable for conventional wheeled lawn mowers.

Instead of travelling on wheels, the mower floats on a cushion of air. This allows it to move in different directions and makes it particularly useful around obstacles, along embankments and across complex ground where a standard walk-behind mower can be difficult to position.

The approximately 51cm cutting system uses Husqvarna BioClip® mulching. Grass is cut into small pieces and returned to the ground rather than placed in a collector.

Is the Husqvarna GX 560 right for you?

Choose the GX 560 if you need to mow:

  • Steep grass banks or embankments
  • Uneven or tightly contoured ground
  • Areas around trees, flower beds and other obstacles
  • Bunker edges and difficult areas on golf courses
  • Ground where a wheeled mower is difficult to turn or position
  • Areas without convenient access to mains electricity
  • Grass where mulching is preferable to collection

Consider another mower if you need:

  • A grass collector and conventional boxed finish
  • A rear roller and pronounced lawn stripes
  • A self-propelled drive system
  • A mower primarily for a small, flat ornamental lawn
  • High cutting positions above 30mm
  • Tool-free cutting-height adjustment using a lever

Why Masseys recommends the Husqvarna GX 560

Masseys recommends the GX 560 when the terrain is the main mowing challenge. Its greatest advantage is not conventional lawn collection or striping; it is the ability to manoeuvre across banks, slopes, contours and awkward ground where a wheeled machine can become difficult to control or position.

The wide cutting path is productive across larger difficult areas, while the hover design allows the operator to change direction without turning a set of wheels. The Honda petrol engine also provides freedom from electrical cables and battery run-time limitations.

The GX 560 is not the best choice for every garden. Customers with a mainly level lawn who want grass collection and powered drive will normally be better served by a conventional self-propelled mower such as the Husqvarna LC253S. The Masseys garden-machinery team can help compare the two types before purchase.

How the air-cushion system works

The mower’s rotating cutting system creates airflow beneath the deck, lifting the mower slightly above the ground during operation. This reduces the resistance associated with conventional wheels and allows the mower to move in different directions.

The design is particularly helpful on complex contours because the mower does not need to follow a fixed wheel path. The operator can guide it across the ground according to the shape of the area being cut.

The mower is still hand-propelled. “Hover” does not mean that it drives itself, but the air cushion reduces contact between the deck and the ground while the cutting system is operating.

Mowing steep banks safely

The GX 560 is designed for slopes, but safe operation depends on the angle, surface condition, obstacles and the operator’s footing. The current operator manual specifies a maximum slope of 40°.

  • Never operate the mower on slopes exceeding 40°
  • Do not mow wet or slippery slopes
  • Work across the face of the slope rather than directly up and down
  • Maintain level, secure footing
  • Keep the mower below the operator while working on a bank
  • Remove stones, branches and other loose objects before mowing
  • Follow all instructions in the supplied operator manual

The maximum permitted angle is not a guarantee that every 40° slope is safe. Ground moisture, holes, loose soil, vegetation and restricted access can all make a shallower slope unsuitable.

BioClip mulching cutting system

The GX 560 uses Husqvarna’s BioClip mulching method. Instead of sending grass into a collector, the blade cuts the clippings into smaller pieces and returns them to the ground.

This eliminates the need to repeatedly empty a grass bag and can return moisture and nutrients to the turf. Mulching produces the best result when the grass is reasonably dry and is cut regularly.

The mower does not include a collection system. If removing clippings is essential, choose a conventional collecting lawn mower instead.

Approximately 51cm cutting width

The approximately 51cm cutting width provides productive coverage across larger areas of difficult ground. It is wider than many domestic hover mowers and is therefore suitable for locations where a substantial amount of sloped or contoured grass must be maintained.

The GX 560 offers three cutting-height positions between approximately 10mm and 30mm. Height is adjusted using spacers rather than a conventional external lever, so it is intended for users who do not need to change the cutting height frequently.

Honda GCVX-170 petrol engine

The current GX 560 is powered by a 166cc Honda GCVX-170 air-cooled four-stroke petrol engine, producing a net output of approximately 3.4kW at 3,150rpm.

Petrol power allows the mower to be used in outlying areas without a mains cable or battery charging point. Correct engine oil, fresh fuel and scheduled maintenance are essential for reliable operation.

Always follow the Husqvarna operator manual for starting, refuelling, maintenance, transport and storage instructions.

Lightweight ABS cutting deck

The cutting deck is made from ABS plastic, helping to keep the complete mower’s weight to approximately 18kg. Lower weight is particularly valuable when guiding a machine across contoured ground or transporting it between work areas.

The foldable handle reduces the amount of storage space required and can make the mower easier to transport. Allow the engine to cool and follow the operator manual before folding, lifting or transporting the machine.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Husqvarna GX 560 self-propelled?

No. The GX 560 is hand-propelled. The air cushion makes the mower easier to guide in different directions, but it does not have a powered drive system.

Can the GX 560 mow steep slopes?

Yes. The current operator manual permits use on slopes up to a maximum of 40°. The mower must not be used on wet slopes, and all operating and safety instructions in the manual must be followed.

Does the Husqvarna GX 560 collect grass?

No. It uses a BioClip mulching system that cuts the clippings into small pieces and returns them to the ground. It does not have a grass collector.

What is the cutting width?

The current GX 560 has an approximately 51cm cutting width, equivalent to about 20 inches.

What cutting heights are available?

There are three cutting-height positions between approximately 10mm and 30mm. The height is changed using deck spacers rather than an external adjustment lever.

Is the GX 560 suitable for an ordinary flat garden?

It can cut level ground, but its main advantages are apparent on steep, uneven or awkward areas. For a mainly flat domestic lawn where grass collection and powered drive are priorities, a conventional wheeled mower may be more suitable.

Will it create lawn stripes?

No. The GX 560 does not have a rear roller and is not intended to create pronounced lawn stripes.

What is the difference between the GX 560 and a wheeled mower?

The GX 560 floats on a cushion of air and can move in different directions without following a fixed wheel path. A conventional wheeled mower is generally better for level lawns, collection and formal finishes, while the GX 560 is better suited to banks, contours and difficult terrain.

Can Masseys service the GX 560?

Yes. Masseys has an in-house garden-machinery workshop providing servicing, repairs and warranty support. Contact the team to confirm the required work and current booking availability.
