The Bosch PEX 400 AE random orbit sander is about a quarter more compact than its predecessor. This system is part of the Bosch “Expert” series, which is designed to meet the requirements of experienced and discerning DIYers. As with the smaller sister model PEX 300 AE, the PEX 400 AE is also better balanced than its predecessors: the handles are fitted in the optimum position relative to the tool’s centre of gravity. This ensures extremely easy and controlled guidance of the PEX 400 AE. Both random orbit sanders sit securely and comfortably in the hand due to their ergonomic design with softgrip coverings. What’s more, the fan wheel reduces vibration. As a result, the PEX 400 AE glides more smoothly over the workpiece than its predecessors.

One of the highlights of the PEX 400 AE from Bosch is its speed preselection. This is an advantage especially when working on varnished surfaces: if the DIYer selects a low speed, the surface will not get too hot and the paint on a workpiece will not burn. This enables users to quickly and easily perform applications such as sanding down old furniture, door frames and stairs or intermediate sanding on varnished surfaces without the abrasive becoming clogged. Bosch has also equipped the PEX 400 AE with a dust box for minimising dust exposure. A dust extraction element takes the dust created during sanding and feeds it immediately into the microfilter container.

A special feature of the Bosch PEX 400 AE is its “Paper Assistant”. This paper applicator enables the sanding paper to be fitted to the sanding pad easily and precisely. This prevents unnecessary wear of the paper and damage to the sanded material as a result of abrasives not being mounted properly. Bosch has worked especially hard to provide excellent handling with this random orbit sander. Its handle sits securely and comfortably in the hand thanks to its ergonomic design with softgrip coverings. What’s more, the precisely balanced fan wheel reduces vibration. As a result, the PEX 400 AE glides more smoothly over the workpiece than its predecessors.
