Bird Brand Woodworm Killer
Bird Brand Woodworm Killer is a water-based, permethrin insecticide that treats and prevents woodworm infestation in indoor timber. It kills wood-boring beetle larvae and adults on contact and leaves a protective barrier in the wood to stop new infestations taking hold. It’s HSE approved for UK use and suitable for structural timbers, floorboards, joists, doors, and furniture.
What is woodworm, and how do you know you’ve got it?
“Woodworm” isn’t a single insect — it’s the general name for the larvae of several wood-boring beetle species (most commonly the common furniture beetle) that tunnel through timber to feed. Signs include small round exit holes (1–2mm), fine powdery dust (frass) beneath the timber, and in active infestations, crumbly or weakened wood. If you’re seeing fresh, pale-coloured dust rather than old, discoloured holes, the infestation is likely still active and needs treating.
How Bird Brand Woodworm Killer works
Treats and prevents, in one product — Kills existing wood-boring beetle larvae and adults, and leaves residual protection in the timber to guard against reinfestation.
Deep-penetrating, water-based formula — Water-based for easier use and cleanup, but formulated to penetrate into the timber rather than just sitting on the surface, where the larvae actually are.
Low odour — Built around permethrin, an effective insecticide with very little smell, so it can be used indoors, in lofts, basements, or occupied rooms without leaving a strong chemical smell behind.
HSE approved, UK certified — Approved under UK Health & Safety Executive standards, and certified to BS EN 46/49-1/118/370/1390 for wood preservation and pest control.
Where to use it
Authorised for Use Class 1 — timber that’s under cover and not exposed to weather or regular wetting. That covers:
- Loft and basement beams and joists
- Floorboards and skirting
- Doors, window frames, and furniture
- Any indoor woodwork with signs of woodworm activity
Not intended for exterior timber that gets wet or weathered — for that, see our wood preserver range.
How to apply it
Apply by brush or low-pressure spray, working it well into the surface of the timber so it can penetrate rather than sitting on top. Always read the label and product information before use.
