Why choose an electric lawn mower?

  • Great value: Electric mowers are often the most affordable way to get a quality machine from a trusted brand.
  • Light and easy to handle: With no engine or battery pack, corded mowers are usually lighter and easier to manoeuvre.
  • Low maintenance: No petrol, oil changes or spark plugs – just plug in, mow and keep the blade sharp.
  • Quiet operation: Quieter than many petrol mowers, making them ideal for smaller, built-up gardens.
  • Plug-in convenience: As long as you have access to a power socket and manage the cable safely, you have virtually unlimited run time.

If you like the simplicity of “plug in and go” and your lawn is not too large or far from the house, an
electric lawn mower can be an excellent choice.

Electric lawn mowers by garden size

Small lawns – up to around 250–300 m²

For compact gardens, a narrow, lightweight electric mower is easy to use and simple to store:

These models are perfect if you want a light mower you can lift easily, store on a shelf or in a small shed and quickly plug in when needed.

Small to medium lawns – roughly 300–500 m²

For slightly bigger gardens, a wider cutting width and larger grass box will help you get the job done faster:

If you are unsure which cutting width suits your garden, bring rough lawn measurements into store and our team can advise.

Electric vs cordless vs petrol mowers

Not sure whether to choose electric, cordless or petrol? As a general guide:

  • Electric: Best for small to medium lawns with good access to a socket. Light, quiet and low maintenance,
but you must manage the cable as you mow.
  • Cordless: Ideal if you want freedom from cables and quiet operation. Great for most domestic gardens –
    see our cordless lawn mowers.
  • Petrol: Best for larger or rougher lawns, or if you regularly cut long grass and do not mind fuel and servicing –
    see our petrol lawn mowers.

You can also explore fully automatic options on our robotic lawn mowers page if you would prefer the mower to cut the grass for you.

Cable management & safe use

When using an electric lawn mower, it is important to manage the cable safely:

  • Start mowing nearest the socket and work away from the house so the cable stays behind you.
  • Use an outdoor-rated extension lead if required, and always fully unwind cable reels.
  • Keep the cable over your shoulder or to one side and regularly check its position.
  • Always unplug the mower before clearing blockages or tipping it over to check the blade.

Our team will happily run through basic safety and cable management tips when you buy your mower in store.
