The Stihl MS181 C-BE chainsaw is recommended by Masseys for someone who is looking for a domestic chainsaw that is easy to start and can have the chain tensioned quickly without the need for any tools. This is because the Stihl MS181 C-BE features the Stihl Ergostart system which halves the force required to start the engine and reduces the speed at which the starter cord must be pulled. The chainsaw also features the environmentally friendly Stihl 2-MIX engine which provides plenty of torque and yet save around 20% on fuel compared to standard Stihl 2-stroke engines. The standard Stihl MS181 does not have the tool-less chain tensioning and the ergo start system.

The Stihl MS181 C-BE chainsaw with a 14 inch bar has a few clever additions to the basic Stihl MS181, but they do start life as the same machine. The chainsaw has a 31.8 cc engine with a 1.5 kW / 2.0 hp power output and weighs 4.6 kg without the bar and chain. Instead of a side chain tensioner the C-BE model has the Stihl quick chain tensioning system which means you can tension the chain without the need for tools when in the field.

Masseys assemble your chainsaw, PDI it and make sure it is running before you leave the store which will reduce any unwanted down time. Don’t forget, Masseys in Swadlincote, Derbyshire has one of the largest Stihl displays in the UK!. See all of our Stihl chainsaws.

The Stihl MS181 C-BE chainsaw features in detail:

A Stihl compensator will keep the fuel to air mixture constant even when the air filter starts to deteriorate.

Long-Life air filter system
Ensures that 80 percent of dust particles contained in the sucked in air are caught in the first stage of the system. Unlike traditional systems, these are not collected in the foam filter, but are separated and transported out into the surrounding air. In turn, this provides the elimination of cleaning intervals for the foam pre-filter.

Tool-less filler caps
When out in the field there is no danger of loosing or not be able to refit the fuel cap and the oil cap.

Masseys will assemble you chainsaw, fuel and oil it and give you instruction on how to use it. The Stihl MS181 C-BE chainsaw is available from Masseys in Swadlincote Derbyshire.

  • Check chain tension frequently

Checking the chain tension –

  • Shut off the engine
  • Wear work gloves to protect your hands
  • The chain must fit snugly against the underside of the bar and it must still be possible to pull the chain along the bar by hand
  • The chain should never be sagging off the bar
  • If necessary, re-tension the chain
  • Check chain tension frequently.
