Choosing the right Stihl chainsaw

People often think that bigger chainsaw bars are better. However, they can be less well balanced and increase the weight of the chainsaw unnecessarily. Consider your task and remember that a 30cm guide bar can cut almost twice its length – that’s a half metre diameter log.  When choosing a chainsaw think about the ease of use – do I need the Ergostart option to make it easier to start? Do I want a petrol engine or would an electric or cordless chainsaw be better for me?

Advice from Stihl:

For maximum safety while working you need to wear specified clothing and protective equipment when operating a chainsaw. Clothing must be sturdy and snug-fitting, but allow complete freedom of movement. Never wear anything that could catch in wood or scrub. Do not wear a scarf, tie or jewellery when operating the machine. Long hair must be securely tied back.Stihl chainsaws
